Thank you to all who attended the YVKC Award banquet! The highlight of the night being a special award given to an extra special person, Sandy Wall. Her service to the club over the years as well as going above and beyond what is required, she is always there with a smile. She IS the YVKC’s Hospitality person, never expecting any acknowledgement. Well, I am so happy to say she was awarded the Paul Lancaster award. This is an award named after a founding Father of the club and designed as a special award not given on a yearly basis but by private nomination. So here’s to you Sandy… the best of the best! Thank you so much for all of your hard work we appreciate you!! Award presented by our President Marci...

Yakima Valley Kennel Club Agility Trial 2013

Posted by on Oct 28, 2014 in Archives | Comments Off on Yakima Valley Kennel Club Agility Trial 2013

The 2013 Yakima Kennel Club Agility Trial was a huge success! We were blessed with fantastic weather and the usual smooth running program. In the 3 trial days we had approximately 940 runs. There were triumphs, challenges and heartwarming moments among the exhibitors. The hospitality committee turned out their usual excellent cuisine and a good time was had by all. The YVKC would like to thank all the exhibitors for their supurb sportsmanship, good humor and enjoyment of the occasion. Most of all we would like to express appreciation for our 4 legged partners and competitors who make it all worthwhile View Photos from the 2013 YVKC Agility Trial   In its simplest form, an agility course consists of a set of standard obstacles laid out by a judge in a design of his or her own choosing in an area of a specified size. The surface may be of grass, dirt, rubber, or special matting. Depending on the type of competition, the obstacles may be marked with numbers indicating the order in which they must be completed.   Courses are complicated enough that a dog could not complete them correctly without human direction. In competition, the handler must assess the course, decide on handling strategies, and direct the dog through the course, with precision and speed equally important. Many strategies exist to compensate for the inherent difference in human and dog speeds and the strengths and weaknesses of the various dogs and handlers. See more on the Yakima Herald site...
